Billing
Odento handles the full billing lifecycle — from invoice generation and online payments to insurance claims, GST compliance, and financial reporting. This guide covers each component and how they work together.
Invoices
Invoices in Odento are generated in two ways:
- Auto-generated: When you complete an appointment, Odento drafts an invoice based on the procedures performed and your pricing templates
- Manual: Create an invoice from scratch for services rendered outside the appointment flow (e.g., selling a product, charging for a missed appointment)
Each invoice includes:
- Patient details and invoice number (auto-incremented, customizable prefix)
- Line items with procedure descriptions, quantities, and unit prices
- Discounts (percentage or flat amount)
- GST (configurable per state, with separate CGST and SGST for intra-state)
- Payment terms and due date
- Your clinic's branding (logo, address, GSTIN, registration number)

Payments
Record payments against invoices in several ways:
- Online payment link: Send a Razorpay link via WhatsApp; the patient pays and the invoice updates automatically
- Cash: Record a cash payment with a receipt number
- Card/UPI at clinic: Record the transaction reference
- Insurance: Submit a claim (see Insurance below)
Partial payments are supported — Odento tracks the outstanding balance and sends reminders for overdue amounts.

Razorpay Integration
Odento uses Razorpay as its payment gateway for online collections. To set it up:
- Create a Razorpay account at razorpay.com if you don't have one
- Complete KYC and activate your account
- In Odento, go to Settings › Payments › Razorpay
- Enter your Key ID and Key Secret
- Switch from Test Mode to Live Mode when ready to accept real payments
Test Mode
Use Razorpay Test Mode with test keys to simulate payments before going live. Test mode uses dummy card numbers and UPI IDs — no real money moves. Switch to Live Mode only after verifying the full payment flow works end to end.
Razorpay supports all major Indian payment methods: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay), net banking (50+ banks), and popular wallets. Patients see all available options on the payment page automatically.
Insurance Claims
For patients with dental insurance, Odento helps you manage the claims process:
- Record the patient's insurance provider, policy number, and coverage details in their record
- Generate a pre-authorization request with the planned procedures and estimated costs
- Submit post-treatment claims with the final invoice and supporting clinical notes
- Track claim status (submitted, under review, approved, rejected, paid)
- Record the insurance payout and adjust the patient's balance
GST Compliance
Odento handles GST calculations based on your configured state and the patient's location. Key features:
- CGST + SGST for intra-state transactions (split equally)
- IGST for inter-state transactions
- Configurable GST rates per procedure (most dental services are exempt, but products like dental materials are taxable)
- Automatic HSN/SAC code assignment
- GSTIN displayed on every invoice
- Monthly and quarterly GST summary reports for filing
GST on Dental Services
Most pure dental healthcare services are exempt from GST in India. However, the sale of dental products (toothbrushes, whitening kits, etc.) and certain cosmetic procedures may attract GST. Consult your CA for your specific situation — Odento lets you configure rates per line item.
Financial Reports
The billing module feeds into the Reports module with financial data including daily, weekly, and monthly revenue, outstanding receivables, payment method breakdowns, and GST summaries. You can export any report as PDF or CSV for your accountant.
