Patient Management
Every patient interaction in your practice starts with a patient record. Odento's patient management module handles everything from adding new patients and searching existing records to tracking medical history, allergies, and demographics.
Adding Patients
There are three ways to add a patient in Odento:
- Manual entry: Click Add Patient in the Patients module and fill in the form
- Online self-registration: Patients book through your public Odento booking page and their record is created automatically
- Import: Bulk import from a CSV file when migrating from another system
Required Fields
At minimum, Odento requires:
- Full name
- Phone number (used as the unique identifier across the platform)
- Date of birth
- Gender
Optional Fields
A complete record improves clinical safety and enables better communication. We recommend filling in:
- Email address
- Home address
- Occupation
- Emergency contact name and phone
- Insurance provider and policy number
- ABDM health ID (for linked health records)
- Preferred communication channel (WhatsApp, SMS, email)
- Preferred language for communications
Duplicate Detection
When you enter a phone number, Odento checks the entire platform for existing records. If a match is found, you'll see a prompt to open the existing record instead of creating a duplicate — even if the patient was registered at a different clinic on Odento.

Searching Patients
The patient search bar at the top of the Patients module supports:
- Name: Partial matches, including nicknames and alternate spellings
- Phone number: Last 4 digits or full number
- Patient ID: The unique Odento-generated ID
- ABDM health ID: If the patient has linked their ABDM account
You can also filter the patient list by tags (e.g., "high-risk", "pending payment"), last visit date, treatment type, or outstanding balance.

Medical History
Each patient record includes a structured medical history section. Odento uses this data to flag potential risks before treatment — for example, warning you if a patient with a bleeding disorder is scheduled for an extraction.
The medical history captures:
- Chronic conditions: Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma, etc.
- Previous surgeries: Type and date, with relevance to dental treatment
- Current medications: Drug name, dosage, frequency — with interaction checking against prescribed dental medications
- Habits: Smoking, alcohol, tobacco chewing, bruxism
- Pregnancy status: Trimester and any restrictions
- Blood group: For emergency reference
Medical History Updates
Odento prompts patients to review and update their medical history periodically — typically every 6 months or before a major procedure. Updated information requires your review before it's applied to the clinical record.
Allergies
Allergies are tracked separately from general medical history because of their immediate clinical impact. Odento categorizes allergies as:
- Drug allergies: Penicillin, sulfa, NSAIDs, local anesthetics — these trigger prescription warnings
- Material allergies: Latex, acrylic, certain metals — relevant for restorations and impressions
- Food allergies: Relevant for dietary recommendations post-treatment
- Environmental allergies: Less clinically critical but useful context
When you prescribe a medication or plan a procedure involving a material the patient is allergic to, Odento displays a prominent warning and suggests alternatives from the drug database.
Demographics
Demographic data helps you understand your patient base and tailor communications. Odento tracks age, gender, location, occupation, and language preference. This data powers the analytics in the Reports module — for example, showing which age groups visit most frequently or which neighborhoods your patients come from.
ABDM Health Records Integration
Odento integrates with India's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). If a patient has an ABDM health ID, you can link their Odento record to their national health account. This enables:
- Sharing treatment records with other healthcare providers (with patient consent)
- Receiving records from other providers to get a complete medical picture
- Prescription sharing via the ABDM prescription module
Consent-Based Sharing
No record is shared without explicit patient consent. Patients grant consent through a digital flow — they receive a WhatsApp link, review what's being shared and with whom, and approve or deny. Consent is time-limited and revocable at any time.
Patient Communication
From any patient record, you can send a WhatsApp message directly through Odento. The conversation is logged in the patient's timeline, so your team has full context. Automated messages — appointment confirmations, reminders, post-care instructions — are sent through the same channel and appear in the same timeline.
