Treatment Plans
Treatment plans are the bridge between diagnosis and execution. Odento lets you create structured plans with procedures, pricing, and timelines — then track progress from first visit to completion. This guide covers plan creation, clinical notes, and perio charting.
Creating a Treatment Plan
Open a patient's record and navigate to the Treatment Plans tab. Click New Plan to start. A treatment plan consists of:
Screenshot — Creating a Treatment Plan
- Diagnosis: The ICD-10 coded diagnosis driving the plan
- Procedures: One or more dental procedures, each with a tooth number, surface, and price
- Phases (optional): Group procedures into phases — e.g., Phase 1 (emergency), Phase 2 (restorative), Phase 3 (cosmetic)
- Timeline: Estimated start and completion dates
- Notes: Clinical rationale and patient-specific considerations
Once created, the plan is shared with the patient via WhatsApp. They can review the procedures, costs, and timeline, then approve or request changes — all through the patient portal or WhatsApp.
Treatment Templates
Save frequently used treatment plans as templates. When a new patient needs a similar treatment, apply the template and adjust the specifics — this saves time and ensures consistency across your practice.

Procedures and Pricing
Odento comes pre-loaded with a standard dental procedure catalog (using common Indian dental coding). Each procedure has a default price that you can customize for your practice in Settings › Pricing.
When adding a procedure to a treatment plan, you can:
- Select the tooth number using the interactive tooth chart
- Specify surfaces (mesial, distal, buccal, lingual, occlusal)
- Override the default price for this specific case
- Add clinical notes specific to this procedure
- Mark the procedure as urgent or elective

Clinical Records
Every treatment plan generates a clinical record that grows as you complete procedures. The clinical record includes:
- Treatment notes: Free-form and structured notes for each visit
- Perio charting: Probing depths, recession, mobility, bleeding, furcation
- Imagery: Intraoral photos, X-rays, and scanned impressions
- Prescriptions: Medications prescribed, with dosage auto-filled from the drug database
- Lab orders: Work orders sent to dental labs, with case status tracking
Treatment Notes
Treatment notes are the narrative record of each visit. Odento's note editor supports both structured fields and free-form text, so you can capture the detail you need without slowing down your workflow.
Structured fields include:
- Chief complaint (patient's own words)
- Examination findings
- Diagnosis (ICD-10 with auto-suggest)
- Treatment performed (linked to the plan)
- Materials used
- Next visit recommendation
Notes are timestamped and attributed to the dentist who wrote them. They become part of the permanent clinical record and can be shared with the patient or other providers via ABDM.
Perio Charting
Odento includes a full periodontal charting tool designed for chairside use on a tablet. Tap any tooth to record:
- Probing depth: Six sites per tooth (mesiobuccal, buccal, distobuccal, mesiolingual, lingual, distolingual)
- Gingival recession: Millimeters from the CEJ
- Clinical attachment level: Auto-calculated from probing depth and recession
- Mobility: Miller classification (0–3)
- Bleeding on probing: Yes/no per site
- Furcation involvement: Grade I, II, or III for multi-rooted teeth
- Plaque index: Per site
Progress Tracking
Each perio chart is saved with a date. When you open a new chart, Odento overlays the previous readings so you can see changes at a glance — pockets that have deepened, recession that has progressed, or sites where bleeding has resolved after treatment.
Lab Orders from Treatment Plans
When a treatment plan includes procedures that require lab work (crowns, bridges, dentures, aligners), Odento can generate a lab work order automatically. The order includes the tooth number, material specification, shade, and any clinical notes the lab needs. Learn more in the Lab Orders guide.
Completing a Treatment Plan
As you complete each procedure, mark it as done in the plan. Odento tracks the overall completion percentage and highlights any remaining procedures. When all procedures are complete, the plan is marked as finished and archived to the patient's treatment history.
