Academics
Manage the academic side of dental education — from curriculum design and assessment scheduling to grading and attendance tracking. Odento brings academic and clinical data together, so you can see the complete picture of each student's performance.
Curriculum
Define your institute's curriculum as a structured hierarchy:
- Program: BDS, MDS, or a certificate/diploma program
- Year/Semester: The academic period (e.g., "BDS Year 3, Semester 1")
- Subject/Course: A specific course within the semester (e.g., "Periodontology Theory")
- Module/Unit: A sub-section of a course (e.g., "Periodontal Diagnosis")
For each course, define the syllabus, learning objectives, credit hours, and the faculty member responsible. Courses can be linked to departments, so clinical sessions in a department automatically map to the relevant course.
Curriculum Templates
Save your curriculum structure as a template and apply it to new batches with one click. This ensures consistency across cohorts and saves setup time at the start of each academic year.

Assessments
Create and schedule assessments for any course. Odento supports multiple assessment types:
- Theory exams: Written examinations with multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions
- Practical exams: Clinical or bench assessments where students demonstrate procedures
- Viva voce: Oral examinations — record scores and faculty feedback
- OSCE: Objective Structured Clinical Examinations with multiple stations
- Continuous assessment: Ongoing evaluation through quizzes, assignments, and case presentations
For each assessment, configure:
- Date, time, and duration
- Maximum marks and passing threshold
- Weight in the final grade (e.g., 20% of semester grade)
- Assessing faculty members
- Eligible students (by batch or individual)

Grading
Enter grades after each assessment. Odento supports:
- Numeric marks: Score out of maximum marks
- Letter grades: Configurable grading scale (A+, A, B+, etc.)
- Pass/Fail: For competency assessments
- Rubric-based: Multi-criteria scoring with weighted dimensions
Grades roll up automatically — assessment scores combine into course grades, course grades combine into semester GPAs, and semester GPAs combine into cumulative GPAs. You can configure the weighting rules to match your institute's grading policy.

Periodontology — Semester 5
Internal Assessment (20%): 18/20
Mid-term Exam (30%): 26/30
Final Exam (50%): 42/50
-----------------
Total: 86/100 Grade: A
Cumulative GPA (Sem 5): 8.6 / 10.0Attendance
Track attendance for lectures, practical sessions, and clinical postings. Odento supports multiple attendance marking methods:
- Manual: Faculty marks attendance on the student roster
- QR code: Students scan a QR code displayed in the classroom
- Biometric: Integration with fingerprint or face recognition devices
Attendance data feeds into the academic standing calculation. Set minimum attendance requirements (e.g., 75% per course) and Odento flags students who fall below the threshold, with automatic alerts to the student and their faculty advisor.
Clinical Attendance
Attendance for clinical sessions is tracked separately from lecture attendance, as many dental councils have distinct minimum requirements for clinical posting attendance. Odento tracks both independently.
Transcripts and Reports
Generate official transcripts for individual students or entire batches. Transcripts include all courses, grades, GPAs, and attendance summaries. Export as branded PDF for official use, or share digitally with students through their portal.
